“What are you doing on your smartphone?”
I ask a student who works for a tech startup.
He asks because the iPhone 6 is a touchscreen.
I explain to him that it’s not really a touchscreen, and that it takes a lot of energy to interact with it.
“You can’t have a conversation with it,” I explain.
“There are some gestures that it does have, but it’s a touch-sensitive thing.
It’s just not a real touchscreen.”
He’s right, but this is an important lesson: It’s not a touchscreen you’re learning to use.
I would rather focus on learning a new skill, and using a different way to interact.
The key is to learn to use your body as your tool.
